- Allergies
Allergy season is in full swing in Houston! Every year mother nature’s little joke causes many of us to sniffle and sneeze our way through the spring as we avoid the outdoors despite the beautiful weather. It seems like no matter what we do the pollen is on a mission to find us!
Though many of us suffer from allergies each year, dealing with the sniffles, there are a few people who have a much more serious reaction that can be life-threatening. It is important to know what you are allergic to and what to do in case of an emergency. If you or someone you know has a serious allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include wheezing, trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, breaking out into hives or a rash, and swelling of the lips, tongue or throat.
More often than not though, you can control your exposure to allergens by monitoring how often and when you go outside, by taking over the counter medications, and by keeping your home a safe haven for yourself. Since many allergens, like pollen stick to our skin and the fabrics in our clothes, it is important to wash your clothes, towels, and sheets often to ensure you stay free of allergies.
Awareness is key. Learn about your specific allergies and how you can keep them under control by speaking with a doctor your trust. You should be able to enjoy this beautiful weather without worrying about your allergies taking over, so take the time to make your health a priority this spring.
