Halloween is a night of tricks and treats, and it is important to put your and your family’s safety first and foremost. Play it safe while considering your Halloween costume, trick-or-treating, and driving.
Choose a Halloween costume that is bright and reflective, so that you are easy to see at night, and make sure your costume is short enough so that you don’t trip and fall. Avoid hats and masks that cover your face and impair your vision. Also, avoid costume contacts at all costs, unless you get a prescription from an eye doctor. Wearing contact lenses without a prescription can cause pain, inflammation of the eye, and serious eye disorders and infections which may cause permanent blindness!
Kids should also go trick-or-treating with an adult and with a flashlight so you can see the road, and cars can see you! Not all streets are well-lit, so it is important to be cautious of your surroundings, even on Halloween, when there are a lot of people out. In addition, you should walk on sidewalks and paths when possible and you should cross streets at corners and if possible, where there are crosswalks and traffic lights.
If you do find yourself in a medical emergency this holiday, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Accidents happen, but we hope you all have a safe and spooktacular Halloween! Happy haunting!
