WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME?
Most parents have been in this situation: your child wakes up feeling under the weather, and you are not sure if they should stay home from school. The team at Gemini Urgent Care is here to help you decide when your child should take a sick day based on their symptoms.
FEVER
If your child has a fever, aka a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or above, it is best to keep them at home. If your child seems uncomfortable or unwell, or the fever lasts a few days, bring them to the doctor to ensure they aren’t suffering from an underlying infection.
VOMITING AND DIARRHEA
Vomiting and diarrhea are also signs that your child should stay home from school. Not only is it unpleasant for them, but it can also be disruptive and contagious to others. If your child has vomit or diarrhea more than once in a 24-hour period, it is best to keep them at home until they have been symptom-free for at least one day.
INFECTIONS
Some infections are contagious and can easily spread to others, so it is crucial to keep your child home if they have one of these. These include chickenpox, influenza, strep throat, and Covid-19. If you are unsure whether or not your child’s infection is contagious, consult with their doctor.
THE CARE YOUR CHILD NEEDS
In general, if your child is experiencing any illness or discomfort, it is best to err on the side of caution and keep them at home for the day. This way, they can rest and recover without infecting others or disrupting their learning.
Of course, every child is different, and you should always consult with your doctor if you are unsure about anything. The Gemini Urgent Care team offers expert pediatric care to get your little one back in school in no time. Visit us, make an appointment online, or give us a call today.
