KEEPING YOUR BABY SAFE
Becoming a parent for the first time is a wonderful and rewarding experience — but it can also be very challenging!
This Baby Safety Month, Gemini Urgent Care wants to make sure that all of our new parents have the information they need to keep their child safe and out of harm’s way. Read on for a few essential tips that every parent should be aware of as they care for their new little one.
BATHTUB SAFETY
One of the most important things to keep in mind is bathtub safety. It’s essential that you never leave your baby unattended around water — not even for a minute! Water temperature is also extremely important. Ideally, bathe your baby in water that is around 98 degrees. If you don’t have a thermometer, dip your elbow in the water. If it feels comfortably warm, it is safe for your baby.
CHOKING HAZARDS
For a baby, nearly every small object is a choking hazard. They put everything in their mouths, so it is important to keep an eye out for small objects or pieces of food that they could choke on. Be sure to babyproof your home as much as possible, put away small items, and always supervise your baby during meal times.
CAR SEAT SAFETY
Car safety is another crucial concern for parents. From their first ride home from the hospital, make sure you are using the appropriate seat for your child’s age, height, and weight. Additionally, read the instructions on the side of the seat to ensure proper installation.
NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE
Of course, one of the most important safety tips for parents is to never leave their baby unattended. Even when sleeping, babies can move, squirm, and accidentally cause injury to themselves. If you need to step away, be sure to ask a trusted friend or family member to watch them for you.
